As reported in the
Journal of the American Dental Association, authors reviewed the literature regarding interactions between popular dietary supplements and commonly used medications. They addressed the interactions of greatest concern with a high-quality evidence-based foundation in either randomized controlled clinical trials or meta-analysis.
The researchers found interactions of
prescribed medications with:
- ginkgo
- St. John's Wort
- Evening primrose
- Valerian
Patients taking these supplements should notify their prescribers so that medications can be used to optimize treatment and emphasize patient safety.
