Managing Lupus When Energy Is Limited

When your energy level is limited, it's hard to balance work, home, and social life in the face of all that life demands.  Learning how to manage time effectively, how to say "no," is a difficult but necessary part of managing lupus.  Overexertion or excess stress can increase fatigue and the fog of lupus, making it difficult to do anything well.  While it is tempting to tackle every opportunity or request that comes your way, doing so is often counterproductive.  In fact, being smarter about your schedule can give you more energy and makes everything better.  Ultimately, managing lupus requires setting boundaries, making lists, prioritizing, and rethinking your schedule according to your energy level.  Let your body be your guide.  Take advantage of your support system, honestly communicate how you are feeling and take it easy if you're not feeling great, and reward yourself with little incentives to take care of yourself.
