Caring for Elderly Parents

It is common for aging parents to need their children's help.  When this happens, children must understand that their parents are concerned about two important things:
  • their parents still have a powerful need to maintain control over their lives, even at the time when age and illness make that increasingly complex
  • their parents nurture a deep desire to see and appreciate that their lives have meant something--they have a desire to consolidate their legacy
